What was I thinking??? Or don't do this at home.

Ok, I have a yeast infection, and I'm going absolutely nuts. Don't know why I have a yeast infection, but I definitely do. Now, I'm stuck here at home and can't get to the store to get ANY remedies, so as I got to reading, I read the thread that said put some tea tree oil on a tampon and wear that for a while. Well, being impatient with that treatment and frustrated cuz I can't get to the store, I decided in my oh so infinite wisdom to take a bath with some tea tree oil in it. I did not realize I would have problems with this, but now my whole back side looks and feels like I've been chemically burned. Argh!!! So now not only does my crotch burn itch like heck... but my entire backside does as well. Stupid stupid stupid.

aaack, that sounds awful!
Have heard good things about inserting plain yogurt, but no firsthand experience. Hope you find something that works soon!

Could be stress related...

Tea tree oil can be a harsh essential oil, best used diluted...sorry you have a nasty burn Only a drop or two are needed in the bath and mixing the water good before getting in. ... Maybe a baking soda bath will sooth your skin.

It's fine now... just burned for a bit, kind of freaked me out though. I used WAY more than a few drops though. Try a couple of large dropperfuls. Trying to get rid of that darn yeast infection. Dh went and got some yogurt, and I'm already feeling better. Love that yogurt!

Can stress cause yeast infections? Never heard of that, but I can't think of another logical explanation. No new detergents, no real hormonal changes, I wear cotton panties, no antibiotics - I have only ever gotten yeast infections when I've been pregnant or from when I've been on antibiotics. I have been feeling pretty tired and drug out though - taking naps all the time the last couple of days. Not having insomnia anymore though, in fact I'm sleeping quite a bit. Too tired to stay awake at all hours of the night anymore. Suppose I'm making up for lost sleep - or maybe my immune system is just having issues.

And before anyone says it - no, I'm pretty sure I'm not pregnant. We're REAL careful - don't have $$$ for anymore. But this tiredness does remind me of that first trimester of pregnancy - but without the sore boobs.

Yeast is always present in part of your healthy flora, but when your system gets out of balance and you get an overgrowth is when you get a yeast infection. Stress is a very common cause of this since it can cause your whole body chemistry to get off kilter. Same with diet. Caffeine, sugars, alcohol, yeasty foods...these can all contribute.

Yeast can also be systemic and it causes fatigue, so that could be part of why you are so tired. If you drink caffeinated drinks or eat sugars to get quick energy because of the fatigue it only serves to agrivate things and becomes a viscious cycle.

In addition to using the yogurt topically, you can do sitz baths of a gentle solution of goldenseal or Grapefruit seed extract. You can also douche with a very mild solution of this. The key is to keep it mild. Too much is going to kill more organisms that you want it to and cause its own set of problems.

You can make vaginal suppositories out of gelatin capsules with boric acid as well. This works wonderfully. I have used it with a combination of Oregon Grape root powder, and calendula flowers ground up to a powder with great success. You can also insert a peeled garlic clove but be *very*careful not to nick or cut it at all or it will burn.

Nutrtionally you can avoid all caffeine, alchohol, sugar, yeast breads, etc. Eat lots of yogurt, eat lots of garlic, and you can take acidopholus supplements as well as Oregon Grape, Milk Thistle, and Grape Fruit seed extract.

And rest.....as much as you can.

HTH. Yeast infections are a so uncomfortable.

for what it's worth

I used plain yogurt for a yeast infection and it went bye-bye!
