Are analin dyes safe?

I want to make some rainbow unit blocks for the kids and my woodworker brother suggested analin dyes. They say non-toxic and all that but that doesn't necessarily mean anything IMHO so I'm wondering if they are truely safe and non-toxic as in if we had a baby who put them in his/her mouth it would be ok?

I don't have any links, but I'm pretty sure aniline dyes are toxic.

I don't know about the analin dyes, but I do know that you can dye wood with Procion dye from Dharma. Don't know if it's good/better/worse, but that gives you another option to look into. I think Danielle has done it, ask over at the crafting forum.

Oh that's a great idea, I never thought of that! We tried to dye a piece of pine with kool aid but we weren't real impressed. Thanks for the procion dye suggestion!
