Rubber Hoses? PVC hoses? What to do...what to do?

So, yesterday, we got the spirit of Spring and did some minor yardware replacement, including the purchase of a new garden hose.
We had an old, cheap green PVC-type one that was just completely worn out. I replaced it with a 100% rubber Made In the USA one from Big Lots. It was not cheap - $20. BUT I thought it was better than the alternative and would last us a good long while.
However, when I put it outside today, I removed the paper label and on the back it said "WARNING: This product contains chemicals known to cause cancer and birth defects in California."
But it also says it's 100% rubber.
So, what to do?
I have already written the company asking what the chemicals are and if we are at risk here at Virginia since the wording of the sentence makes it look like only those in Calif. are in danger...But then, I am mostly just a smart***.
Does anyone out there in the world that is Amitysworld know anything about this at all?

Jennifer.

You know, interesting that you just posted this, because during a home visit yesterday with a mama planning a waterbirth (home birth) in a few weeks, this came up.

We always have families get a brand new hose to fill the tub for the birth, but she couldn't find one without the warning label. We are calling a birthtub place to get some more information...don't know what to tell ya, but I am curious to get some answers!

I think every single non-food item I bought when I was in California had that warning on it. My friend who just moved away from California said she never noticed those warnings all the time she lived there, but as soon as she moved away (and wasn't surrounded by them constantly) she noticed them everytime someone sent her something.

I think a rubber hose is a fine purchase. We use them here and we are a Certified Organic farm... so someone must feel they are chemical-free enough to allow us to pass inspection. (Just keep them out of direct sun for extended periods of time.)
