We're considering getting one for our bedroom because our almost 6mo is constantly congested. I've tried eliminating dairy and a variety of things from my diet with no changes.

So my question is: what brand do you have and how loud is it? I am looking for something that is at least as loud as a fan because our 2 yo is in the same room and needs some noise to sleep well. Any suggestions?

I have nasty allergies to mold and dust...and being the lovely NW, we get a lot of both. So we have 2 of the Sharper Imagine air cleaners.....the Quadra ones. Silent, and they work great! My allergist recommended them, and sure enough, we notice a hige difference! It's amazing to see all the dust that they collect......blech! I had a Kenmore one and a Whirlpool one once, few years ago, but they were louder and did not work well for dust and pollen at all.....HTH.

Its really great. Has 4 settings so it can be as loud as you like. Works great for DHs allergies. The big sell for me was that they use this type of filter in hospitals. Which means it has to filter out more then just pollen and dustmites. HTH

Oh...I really want to find an air filter for my car. If anyone has any good suggestions I would love to hear them. (Dont mean to hijack)

We have 3 Holmes Air Purifiers/Ionizers and we have run them every night in the girls and our room since shortly after Erica was born, so we are talking 6+ years and the things still run great. So as far an longevity, I can vouch for Holmes.

I found the 3rd one at a thrift store, not working. I tore it completely apart, cleaned it all out, oiled the motor and now we have 3. So, I might add too, easy to fix.

As for noise, my girls are highly attached to the noise of these things. They went to a sleepover and had to come home to get the purifier because it was too quiet.

I like them because they block out the morning noise and help me sleep longer.

We have a HoneyWell Hepa filter. Someday we would like to get a filter that cleans out chemicals too. It really cleans the air but Hepa's are not cheap. They are the best for allergies or at least were the top one (don't know what all is out now.)

It is great b/c ozone kills viruses, bacteria, mold, and I'm not sure what else. It really makes the house smell fresh too. But I'm not sure if it would be loud enough for you. It sounds sort of like a mist is being sprayed.

We have the big one and it *is* pretty big. We have it in the corner of our bedroom and you can adjust the setting to make it louder or quieter. I also have trouble getting to sleep in a quiet room and this is great for that problem.
