I have been accepted and all that jazz... have been just waiting to see how much in grants I was able to get before getting too excited. I just checked my student center today online and am awarded with 9630.00 in grants! 5350 of that is from Pell Grant. (Also 5500 in loans that I don't want to accept)

Now I have to decide whether I should just dive in and take more classes than I was planning to since... I have the chance to. This will more than cover classes and books. But I don't want to bite off more than I can chew. I haven't been to school since 1996! I'm looking at my class list and seeing if I can find 12 credit hours on here that will be manageable...

Waiting for my credit transfers to post as well so I even know what all I need.

I'm SOOOOO excited!!!!!!!

I only filled out the FAFSA right after we filed our taxes in February. From that I got the Pell Grant, some WI Higher Education Grant (3280.00) and 1000.00 Supplemental Education Grant.

It's best to file the FAFSA asap though... some state grants have early deadlines.

Ok, I am FLOORED by the amount of grants you got!!! That is an amazing opportunity, I am so excited for you (and very jealous! this $6K out of pocket this past year has killed us!!).

We had an EFC of 0000 this year but this is will be the only year I get this much. Part of why I will kick myself if I don't take advantage of it. We most likely won't get very much at all next year.

But... I think I'm starting to come down from my high and realizing that it's not going to be beneficial to take too many classes and end up burnt out or needing to drop something. Everyone is suggesting I just start off with 2. I can always kick it up a notch in the spring I guess if I think I can.

It *has* been 13yrs since I have been in school. And I'm doing it online so I may very well have to get used to the self discipline of needing to get work done. I'm a bit of a procrastinator....

And thank you guys. I started crying when I saw my award letter. I have been so nervous I wouldn't be able to go.

Well we had an annual adjusted gross income of 12,000 one year and an EFC of 0 and got FAR less than that in grants (this was 6 years ago). So, I think that is fantastic.

If you are taking easier classes, I think you could handle three just fine.

Anything 101 is going to be easier... I took sociology and political science this year and they were EASY!

Oh and I also took criminal justice.

IMO, avoid literature classes, english classes, history classes... because these will be reading/writing intensive.

Yeah I'm not doing those right now. I was told to wait on math and english etc anyway until I see what transfers. So I'm just picking from the safe areas.

of course the Intro to Political Science isn't available for that semester. Didn't think of that when I posted these that some might not be available. haha. guess it narrows it down a bit more now...

I went back to school this year. I have gone off and on (mostly off) for 15 years and I was super nervous, it had been about 4 years since I had gone. I found that I had turned into one of those super organized "mom" students lol and things were much easier than I remembered. I wish I had had this level of maturity when I was in school years ago.

How wonderful!!! I was going to apply through FAFSA and actually did the online app and when my school sent their's to me in the mail I never did do it. I got pregnant and kind of forgot about it. Now I'm chugging along taking 1-2 classes at most each semester just so I can afford it.

I started back to school two years ago and we've paid out so much out of pocket for tuition/books. It's a community college and in-state so it's not horrible I guess, but it's a lot.
