anyone take a CLEP exam or two? Because I'm thinking about taking somewhere between 4 and... uhh... 7 of them (I need to check the exact requirements of my 2nd major).
This all came about because the university to which I've transferred has decided that at age 36, with an AP exam and a very analytical 3000 level honors English class under my belt, I need to take English 101. Or I can CLEP out of it. Gee. Wonder what my middle-aged needs-to-graduate-and-get-a-real-job-in-this-lifetime self is going to choose?
So now I have a wild hair to study those things I had planned to take online this semester (that all fell through thanks to the fact that I made that decision after I had to apply as a transient student - doh!). I don't have time to piss away, and this would make my Spring semester kinda sorta productive.
Is it reasonable to think I can pick up a macroeconomics textbook and a CLEP test prep book and give it a whirl?

you could take a gander at c's macro book, if you'd like...
he can't spare it for a full-on study course until after this semester since he's taking it right now but you could look at it and see if it's something you feel you could test out of...
i think I clepped a class, but I can't really remember, oops! I know my mom took the CLEP test for every class that she could when she went back to school for her RN several years ago. It was an easy/cheaper way to get a lot of the general ed credits out of the way.
I clep'd Spanish when I was in school. I don't even know if AP exams existed. I had several AP classes in high school, but no one ever mentioned getting credit for them. I got about 10 hours of credit by CLEP for Spanish though.
Make sure that there isnt a max number or level of CLEP credits that your school will take-- mine would only take very specific courses for CLEP credit.

I clep-ed out of as many classes as they'd let me clep out of b/c the core classes for graduation at my university didn't fit nicely with the pre-requisite courses for vet school (so I had tons of credits, but very few of them applied to the undergrad degree). Anyway, I waited till the last week possible before graduation to take the clep tests, and I clep-ed out of fine arts/music history, two history courses, and something else relatively benign (that I can't even remember). I picked classes to clep out of though that where areas I thought I knew something about and I took the real classes for the stuff I had no clue about (I planned my classes and my clep-ing several months in advance. I just procrastinated on taking the tests. I would not recommend doing that. Its very stress producing.)
Another note- some universities will not give you your honors if too many of your credits applied to your degree are from clep tests.
Good luck!

I'll call and ask them about limits on numbers. They do accept a lot of exams, and it was their idea for me to CLEP English 101 - she had written it on a note when she sent my transcript of all my transfer credits. But I don't know if they limit them.
Not too worried about honors. At this point in my life, this is just a degree I need to get a job. I'm not trying to get into grad school or anything.
Mary Jane - did they have a set exam schedule, like once per semester? I don't want to have to take them all at once, but I'll do if I must.
I took a couple before I started college in English and I remember they weren't particularly difficult. I think I took two on the same day. IIRC they aren't real long. I know I had to go to the nearest university and take them, and I think they had several dates/times you could take them, whenever you were ready. I know I was the only person testing that day.

Looks like the limit is 30 hours of credit, so I'm good to go on the ones I want to take. I'm registered for the first one on 16 Feb. College Freshman Composition. I still can't believe they're making me take that, but whatevs.
