I am in panic mode. I got my grant money back but because I had in writing and verbally the assurance that my loans would be in the first week, I spent it. Apparently the person who processes the loans had to leave on an emergency (yeah, I know what that was, she couldn't handle the stress of all those people calling and freaking out about where their money was) and they were scrambling to find someone to replace her. The date and such changes every stinking time I call. I finally called the office manager who told me that they had trouble from the beginning and were working as fast as they could, except that my friend who enrolled and filled out paperwork the week before school started has HER money, but I, who filled out paperwork the first day you could, still don't.
AAAAHHHHHHHHH! I need to make a house payment. I have people to paypal. I have BILLS due. And equally as important in my mind, I have a vacation to plan .
I never had student loan problems thank goodness. I just paid for tuition this term... but you just reminded me I was going to put loans in defferment.
Oh no, vacation is a must. A necessity. Not a big one, but 2 nights away from the kids at least. I've spent SO LONG being responsible, I'm buying a new pen, and going on a small vacation .
AAAAHHHHHHHHHH! <------ That's me, hairless, running around in panicked circles. The dryer just died. This renders my ability to actually do laundry much diminished. And the dishwasher is making funny noises. What's next, the stove??? Poop, did I just type that out loud and jinx myself? Oh, wait, the tire on the van is flat, yep, we'll call that icing.
Oh HAIL no. That is my biggest pet peeve. College is a BUSINESS. What would happen if WalMart closed it's doors and said "sorry, we've had too much business, come back in a few weeks". I'm sorry, but I think it's usually mismanagement that causes the problems.
I have the direct line number to the manager of financial aid. I called him today. I don't have my loan. He said it would be here. Of course, I've been told that for weeks already, not sure why I believed them this time. This is just a load of baloney. What do they think students are supposed to do?
Sooooo frustrated, and I have 2 house payments to make before a week from today.

Ohhhhhhhh that sucks. That is always one of my big fears, that our school $$$ won't be deposited when they say it will. Sadly, we rely heavily on all the school $$$ to pay for everything. Dh & I are both full-time college students, he works part-time when school is in session. We plan everything around when the quarter/semester starts!!!!!
{{hugs}} I hope the mess is straightened out asap!!!
Ok, well, this sucks. There are apparently a significant amount of people with heads up arses because what was "by this Friday" and then "no later than Monday" (Monday having come and gone now, lol) is now "we don't have any clue". You see, nobody seems to have a fricking CLUE how to use the "new system" and the IT person for my school is ON VACATION (what the heck is summer for???) and the person in Financial Aid had to "go out of town on an emergency". To add icing to the frickity-fracking cake Ike caused flooding to the Financial Aid office and over the same weekend a computer upgrade on campus went very VERY wrong and all of the computers are down. In fact, so are many of the phones. So, the most up-to-date guess as to when money will arrive? Never, possibly later. Don't count on it. Yeah, fantastic. I sobbed on the phone about losing my house (we are behind in payments but not really as bad as my PMSing self made it sound, lol) and not being able to get groceries for my kids. He's loaning me money through the "book fund" which is sitting there numbering in the thousands of dollars while the students who need their student loan money sit waiting for heads to be pulled out of arses. It's not the whole amount, but at least enough to pay most of my bills and get groceries. The catch is that the loan, when it actually DOES come through, will be delayed by me accepting the book loan, which makes NO sense whatsoever. You'd think they'd have a system down for this, but whatever. He promised to "push it through manually when it shows up" so I don't have to wait any longer than I have already.
I still think never sounds more likely.
Good riddance to community college. I'll be off to a 4-year school next year and won't even look back. You get what you pay for.
Oh, man! It's just so messed up! I hope they iron it out soon but I'm glad you got something to hold you over! Our whole issue is a new financial aid system too. We were told they normally start processing files in April but that they couldn't start till August this year because no one knew the new system. I did get my award yesterday - sort of. I can see it in my account but I can't do anything with it till the actual letter arrives. And it took my mom almost a month to have access to her MPN after her award letter arrived.

I am having a similar problem here. I picked the same loan company that I had last year and apparently my school doesn't like it this year. And to make it worse everyone thinks I am an idiot because I didn't know this. The school has finally recieved my money (saw the checks yesterday). Here's hoping I get to see the money soon since we live off of it for the semester.
Yeah, I'm pretty much not going to see this money I think. I have contacted my congressman and he is going to do some digging and string pulling for me. Let's hope he can figure something out. Since I last checked in our van gushed coolant all over the road and is in the shop. It's not the worst case scenario, but it's still a nearly $400 fix . This just sucks donkey balls, that's all I have to say.
And btw, this IS related to the state of our economy. The problems are stemming, in many cases, from banks having less money than applications, the feds not guaranteeing as many loans as there are applications, and private funding not coming through. It's all very messed up. I'm ill thinking about the possibility of not having student loan money as an option. The trouble is, if loans are suddenly falling through, then it's safe to say that grants will probably be right behind it. If there's no backup money then there surely isn't any free money.
I was reading articles this spring about how there was going to be a major student loan crisis looming
It's here. What's annoying is that the financial aid people don't seem to know, lol. They just shrug and say "it'll come eventually" as if $4000 is pocket change people can just wait indefinitely for, lol. Just blows.
