Re: Can you believe in Jesus and NOT be a Christian?
Yes....I mean, a lot of people believe Jesus was a great man/teacher/whatever....they aren't necessarily Christian. I mean, Satan himself believes in God/Jesus and he is by no means a Christian, LOL! Christians go beyond believing in Jesus...we submit, worship, and rely upon Jesus....
Re: Can you believe in Jesus and NOT be a Christian?
Jennifer, that was almost exactly what I was going to post. Yes, many "believe" in Jesus, but they do not follow him/his teachings. There is a big difference.

Re: Can you believe in Jesus and NOT be a Christian?
if i can speak for jenny here...i think she means more like being a believer of the teachings...not just believing he existed...
historically speaking, there is not much of an argument that he lived.
but i think what jenny is saying is can you respect and possibly even follow some of the teachings without being christian. i would say very definitely yes.
and i guess i should stop my ramblings or else my post may get deleted ;o).

Re: Can you believe in Jesus and NOT be a Christian?
Sure you can. Even the Demons believe that HE is the son of GOD, and obviously they aren't going to heaven! lol!
(I will look up the passage, but I am referring to HIM allowing them to go into the pigs, because they begged HIM to do that instead of casting them out of the body HIMSELF... for those who know what I am talking about... for those who don't ...youprobably think I am crazy now! lol!)
Re: Can you believe in Jesus and NOT be a Christian?
Thanks, Danica!
I'm really interested in the range of opinions there are. http://www.amitymama.com/images/icons/smile.gif
I just think it's a fascinating question....myself...one I think about, at any rate.

Yup--believing is one thing, but being Christian is to be a lover of, servant of, and gracious recipient of Jesus Christ and His sacrifice.

Re: Can you believe in Jesus and NOT be a Christian?
yes, I believe christianity is a religion, and includes or is a part of "churchianity".
I call Him Yahushua, not jesus.
I am no loner a "chrisitian" and no longer attend church.
but we read the Scriptures, learn from them, and teach our children His principles. We try to be obediant to His word.
Re: Can you believe in Jesus and NOT be a Christian?
hmm... well, if you believe in ALL his teachings then you ARE a christian, LOL. Labels aside, because i know that Christians get bad press, i consider myslef a follower of Jesus Christ, not lutheran, catholic, etc. that is it. If you DO believe in all of Jesus' teachings, you believe that Jesus is the way to God. the idea is that we are lacking the ability to get to God ourselves.. no matter how hard we try, we lack the ability to be what God wants us to be. Just try following the letter and the spirit of the 10 commandments for 1!!! day, i can't that is for sure. Jesus said that he is the way to God. the only way. if you believe that and choose to give yourself to Jesus it doesnt matter what you call yourself, it then just becomes semantics.

Okay, to throw in a monkey wrench...LOL...What if you believe in what Jesus taught, but not in the resurrection, the virgin birth, that he was the son of God - or at least no more so than any child?
