ARe English Anglican priests considered like postal workers?

1. I'm not in England, and not going any time soon, and have no friends there, so there's no way to ask or verify or anything.

2. I keep reading these quite openly condescending online things about Anglican priests in England. The atheists are openly out, and I just read an article of "good riddance to bad rubbish." regarding the whole church.

3. Bill Bennett writes about the pastors being visibly cowardly during world war 2- because they were beholden to the government for a secure pension, rather than invited and supported by their parishes- and people noticeable falling away from such a contemptible group of people

and

4. This makes no sense to me, here, in my town, where the Anglican pastors get their sermons reviewed in the local college paper, the local alternative paper, and the local paper, as being the smartest, most dedicated, and worthy of the divines. The anglican church downtown gets the "best of" churches, and gets its sermon series advertised in the "things to do" listings, too.

Plus, all the ferociously smart, seriously dedicated, very spiritual, unashamed, american- well, episcopalians, here- that I've met. They say " Yes, episcopalian. book of common prayer, frozen chosen, takes time and dedication, well worth it."

So, the stuff in England- is that, the priesthood is like the postal service, and subject to the same jokes as the postal service here in the US?

most curious-

I don't know WTF the anglican priests here and postal workers have in common. Are the priests striking? Dh is a postal worker, totally atheist, and the postal worker's union is on a series of 24 hour strikes. It would be hilarious if the priests started striking. Our village vicar rides a recumbent around and mixes with all the many other faiths and atheists with no ruckus. He'd be the guy sitting down and holding court with a faithful crowd in the picket line if he went on strike. Is that what you are talking about? I have no clue.

I have no idea how the Anglican priests would be like postal workers at all. I'm

Could you draw the line more clearly for the less intellectual in the crowd? How did this thought process come up for you?

"Master, which is the greatest commandment in the law?
Jesus said until him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
This is the first and great commandment.
And, the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
On these two commandments have all the law and the prophets."

For real? Can you tell me what you mean? I am stumped. Seriously - was up all night with sick child and hovering over her all day. So very very tired. And confused.

I think she is trying to say that Americans make jokes about postal workers and don't hold them in high regard and are Anglican priests the same way in England? Are they (Anglican priests) the butt of jokes in England.

Yah, that's what I got from it, too.

Ok - no, they are not really buts of jokes any more than I am. I am fairly weird though. But no, I would not say they are thought of as lowly. A postie is definitely lower than a vicar or priest by far. So if I made that point then I am not sure how. Maybe I was misunderstood. Postman=working class union job Vicar=educated, community personality, leader.

Thanks guys. Carmel apples are yummy!

But, I guess I didn't understand it because I was unaware that people do not hold postal workers in high regard here. They kinda of do a kick ass job.
