Trying to choose a church...

...and not doing a very good job. Most of the ones I look into lose me at some point during my first read of their website. I get intimidated because they seem so oppressive. FWIW, I believe in God, consider myself Christian, was raised Nazarene and Lutheran, my dad is Jewish and dh is a non-practicing Catholic.

Help? Where should I look?

what do you mean by oppressive?

do you know anyone you like/trust/are encouraged by, who goes to church? Maybe try there?

Hmm, what have you attended so far? Are you interested in a more contemporary or traditional experience?

Have you taken that little quiz at beliefnet? It's pretty cool, really.

I was raised Catholic, but am now Episcopalian. It's a very good fit for me - traditional liturgy combined with modern social justice work was the perfect combo for me.

What DO you want in a church?
What do you NOT want?

Pray, pray, pray..............and keep an open mind and heart.

We spent a very long time seeking a church to worship in. We visited quite a few.

I said to keep a open mind and heart because my dh and I had made a "list" of local churches to visit and the one we ended up feeling at home in was one that we had initially discriminated against and did not put on our "list". *lol*

God was bigger than our list and we found the place we feel He intended for us!!!

Pray and pray and pray................and be patient. It took us as a family two years.

Take your time and find a place that feels comfortable and loving.

(Where'd you grow up Nazarene? I did too and I always swear that the Nazarene world is super small...everyone knows everyone.)

Good advice, Michelle!

For me it's not about what I want in a church, but about finding the truth and what God wants for me. I also don't find it opressive but rather freeing to do what God knows is best for me.
