Question A little fluffy: Do you wear religious jewelry? Why or why not?

A little intro - I was raised Unitarian, and converted to Catholicism 13 years ago. After I was baptized, I wore a cross for a long time. I stopped wearing it when I stopped going to Mass a number of years ago. It didn't seem right, somehow, to wear a symbol of my faith if I wasn't participating in it. Now I've started going to Mass again. I was going through my jewelry the other day, and I came upon my cross. I'm grappling with whether I want to wear it again. So I was wondering how you ladies feel about religious jewelry. Why do you wear it, or why do you choose not to?

I wore a mustard seed pendant forever and ever. It was from my grandmother who died, one of the last things she gave me before she died.

I'm not sure if it's hypocritical to wear it now that I'm not a Christian. Since the mustard seed is more about faith . . . idk, so I just don't.

I go to church each week. My husband is a priest. Our religion is very important to us. But I agree with the above!

I have a cross necklace that I wear a few times a month. Mostly it has to do with whether or not it goes with my outfit!

I certainly don't believe that you have to be active in a church or other religious organization to wear a cross or other religious symbol. For me, I stopped wearing mine because of where I was with my particular church, i.e. feeling very disconnected. Not so anymore. I guess now I'm trying to figure out what that little cross sitting in my jewelry box means to me, and if its place is in my jewelry box or around my neck.

Before I was married I did wear a silver ring with a cross carved in it on my ring finger. It was a reminder to me that I had pledge my purity to Christ until married. As I gotten married I replaced it obviously with my wedding band. I plan to keep it and pass it down to my children, hopefully with the same convictions I had.
PS. I still wear it, but on the right handed ring finger.

Um, I do, but I don't think it comes under the same category as yours. I wear a ring with an image for God; I usually have another ring with an Om sign (another symbol for God); and I usually have a special pair of wooden beads that have enormous personal meaning for me, as well as being a special talisman of protection. But they broke just before coming over here, and my sister packed them away instead of sending them on to me, and now I don't have it.

If I were in your position, I am not sure how I would feel, either. Sorry.

I wear a "worry ring" with the christian fish on it that my Dad got me on the last trip to Mexico that he and my Mom took before he passed away.
I also wear the cross necklace that my husband gave me on our wedding day.

I wear two items on my chain. Both belonged to my grandmother (who I never met).

One is a gold cross. The other is a silver colored medal with Mary, the Mother of God on one side and on the other side it says "Pray for Us".

I have worn a cross since coming to believe in Jesus as my Lord and Savior. (fall 2005) I added the medal a few months ago.

I'm not much of a jewelry wearer, otherwise I would wear it. I have a crusafix, a papal medallion (not sure if that's what it's really called, lol), and a miraculous medal that i would wear if I were to remember to put them on, but most the time I don't.

Well, I've been wearing it. It feels a little funny,(not accustomed to having something aroud my neck) but I'm getting used to it. I am finding that it makes me feel good to see it when I look in the mirror. My sister-in-law, whom I haven't seen since Christmas, was at my house last weekend and actually remarked on how pretty it is. So for now, the cross is out of the box.

I very much appreciate everyone's input.

I don't, but I don't wear much jewelry at all, besides my wedding and engagement rings. Which I'm not wearing right now, either, because of an allergy. Grrr. Today I'm wearing absolutely no jewelry, and that's typical for me.

I have a very small gold icthus (about 1/4in long) on a very small chain around my neck. It's simple and subtle and I get more compliments on it than you'd think for such a tiny thing.

I didn't wear any Christian jewelry when I was a Christian. I just never got into symbolism. Also, I'm not much of a jewelry wearing.

Why would one want/need to wear religious jewelry? Is it to show the world you are religious or possibly to remind yourself?
