I read in Readers Digest (this month with Tom Cruise on the cover) in the interview w/Tom Cruise that Scientology can be paired with any religion? Cruise said that they have Baptist Scientologists etc.....???????? I thought it was a religion?

I have no knowledge and will have to check out Beccas link out of curiosity.

Hmmm. Interesting. That is not something I've heard/read, but that doesn't mean that isn't true. Or it could be that was Tom's interpretation alone. Don't know.

It's an interesting belief system -- with many things that could be said to be positive, and those which could be viewed as negative -- pretty much as with any faith/religion/spiritual path/etc.

Becca

Here is a quote from the link above, sort of answering the Tom Cruise question...

" Not being an exclusive religion, members are welcomed to retain their church affiliation when they become Scientologists"

When I first moved to Boston-I was about 19 and I got talked into going back to the "Church" they showed a freaky movie and then I had to talk to a "counsolor" before I could leave-that person tried to sell me all sorts of things. Hard sell type of thing. I found the experience very disturbing. My roomate also ended up going there at one point. Some how they talked her into going to the bank machine to get money to buy one of the book. I think they used to call looking for her too-maybe there was a survey that had to be filled out after the movie? I don't exactly remember now-it was a long time ago.

They used to just walk up and down Newbury Street trying to recruit folks.

Even after reading that *with* all the links I'm still sitting here wondering what the heck that was really about.
