My understanding of the Bible is that the tribulation occurs, Jesus returns and takes His followers to Heaven with Him, and everyone else dies. I have personally found no evidence of a secret rapture. In fact I would agree with those who say it is intended to give people a false sense of security thinking they will get a second chance.
I recently read a book that explained all this fairly clearly, at least imo. I would recommend it to anyone who is searching.
