Question Joan of Arcadia

Anyone else watch Joan of Arcadia? Is this a Christian show? I'm asking because I haven't seen a cross or mention of Jesus- other than when the Mom was meeting with the ex nun & considering Catholocism.

I would assume so, the premise of the show is that Joan talks to GOD.

Question

How does talking to God automatically mean Christian?

God talks to one little teenaged girl. And He becomes a janitor, a teenage boy, etc.

It trivializes God. I don't like it.

So making God accessible is trivializing? What's the point of our awareness of God if it isn't accessible?

I mean, Christianity teaches God came to earth as the son of a carpenter. WAs born in a manger. I'm not sure how this is entirely different to be hoenst with you.

I've watched it a few times and found it very intriguing. Nothing overtly Christian, nor offensive in my book.

I think you'd like it Anise.

I watch it whenever 1. I remember it's on and 2. I'm not doing anything else. I"m not a big TV watcher so I mostly forget about shows. I've seen Joan a handful of times and can't find any good reason to be offended by it.

We watch it and love it. Joan's mom has been studying Catholicism. The dad has lapsed. Joan is not anything really.

As far as how G-d appears to her - we find (as do many of our friends) that the show takes a very Jewish approach to the relationship between G-d and people, in the fact that we consider G-d to be accessible to all and that anyone can have a direct relationship with G-d. I don't think it trivializes the concept of G-d at all, quite the opposite.

I love the show.

I am not christian nor jewish... I am paganesq

It deals with cause and effect and doing whats right and the effect actions have on others. Kinda gives one the idea of how god touches us daily in little ways. How the ripples of one persons actions affect what happens to us next.

How god touches us, how god leads us down different paths.

Just cause Joan talks to god doesnt mean she gets what she wants.

Give it a shot, worst case you hate it and do not watch again.

I like the show. I remember hearing that they purposely do not make "God" any particular Religious figure.

I like the show. OH yeah I already said that lol.

I think it has a nice approach and does try to send messages in a positive way.

I consider myself more on a pagan/wicca path.

My family loves the show. I don't see any particular religion represented by G-d in it. However I am encouraged by the "realness" of G-d. He is accessable in my personal beliefs. And I have experienced things that made me accutely aware of him. Just like Joan. People, situations. That couldn't have been anything but his intervention.

I too, see the jewishness of the representation in that Joan doesnt have to go "through" anyone to meet with G-d. He comes to her. He interacts with her and the things she does affects others...kinda what I believe. My take on it is that here this teenage girl is interacting with G-d on a regular basis, questioning, arguing, and he is ever patient and determined. The people with "religion" are the ones that can't see him. Things I have seen in my own life.

By the way...good to be back over here. Been off boards for a while. Much family stuff, my father's passing, tending to my elderly mom now...such is life. Give and take. Gains and losses. Lost my father, gained a grandson, Samuel. Life is still good. It is Spring here...potatoes are sprouting, eating lettuce from my garden...I love the newness of this time of year.
