Why, a poem in answer to why bad things happen.
Hi
I read awhile ago about how a mother here is very angry about what happened with the tsunami and how all those people are suffering. She wanted to know why God let it happen. I did not know how to respond but a few days ago, I read a beautiful poem that I wanted to share, to maybe understand why these things happen and what we can do.
WHY?
"On the street I saw a small girl
cold and shivering in a thin dress,
with little hope of a decent meal.
I became angry and said to God:
Why did you permit this?
Why don't you do something about it?
For awhile God said nothing.
That night he replied, quite suddenly:
'I certainly did something about it.
I made you.'"
Another book that I read explains that when God created us, for us to live, He had to take a step back. He is not a magic genie that when something bad happens, He just waves His hand and all is okay. I read something beautiful that I truly love; that life is very precious to God. He made life fragile, like fine china, so that when something bad happens, it makes us realise how precious life is and that we must treasure each and every day, like we would treasure our fine china (if we had any).
So really when something bad happens in the world or your life or a friend's, what we can do is feel compassion towards others and to help as best we can. It is why God made us. I am in a very difficult situation right now, and though I have spoken to so many people, not many are willing to reach out a hand and help. It has made me very sad to see this and I try to make sure that if ever I see someone in need, I will feel compassion in my heart and will reach out my hand and pull the other person up. It is doing God's work, to help out our fellow humans as best we can.
I hope you understand what I mean, and I just wanted to share this.
Best wishes
Melissa
