My very own Red Tent!!!
This is sooooo cool! I've been wanting to visit this new dance studio for several months and finally did last week. They have NIA classes, belly dance, tai chi, Ecstatic Dance, Rubenesque Dance, Salsa etc. They also have a group called the Red Tent that meets the third Friday of every month.
Last night I went, and it was FABULOUS! There were 12 of us, along with 7 or 8 bottles of red wine, some chocolate, candles and women of a 30+ yr age range. We talked about Imbolc/Candlemas, Brigid and her mythology and other Celtic folklore. We also did a ritual for releasing the stagnant winter "things" that have been holding us back, along with lighting a candle (lit from a candle directly from Brigid's Flame in Ireland) as a means of manifesting the new direction we wish to venture.
One woman brought her Goddess Amulets (I also have a set) so we each drew one and read the meanings. We made up a limerick one line at a time (which was extremely funny) and ended the evening chatting, moving to music and relaxing.
It was a very indulgent evening that lasted about 3 hrs...and apparently each month is very different, depending on the women who show up. Sometimes they do drumming, sometimes dancing, always speaking of women's mysteries and mythology, always indulging in decedent delights (such as wine and chocolate). I had a wonderful time!
