Thumbs up Attention VA Mamas!

Hi guys!
I know I am mostly a read-only mama but I wanted to share a great event happening soon:

The first annual Midwives' Benefit 5K is here!
MARK YOUR CALENDARS!!
AUGUST 27, 2005
9AM until 2PM
BYRD PARK, RICHMOND, VA

motherwisebirthresources is pleased to sponsor a statewide family
friendly race/walk event to benefit midwifery advocacy and education.
This family friendly event is geared to raise awareness about the
significant role that midwives play in our state. To that end, we
would
like to invite educators and vendors from across the state to host
tables. Education and vending is open to all topics related to
midwifery, childbirth and raising families. We invite midwives,
midwifery education programs and natural child birth support groups,
midwifery political action committees, doulas, childbirth educators,
yoga schools, Montessori, Waldorf and homeschooling groups, natural
product vendors (slings, cloth diapers, natural skin care),
vegetarian
groups, etc. to share their information and products with
participants
from around the state. We hope to gather our state-wide community
together in order to support each other by recognizing our size,
spreading the word about our resources around the state, and gearing
up
our energies for the upcoming electoral season. We hope to achieve
this
through encouraging a wholesome, healthful event geared for
participants of any physical ability. Heats will be arranged for
safety
and to accommodate all levels of athleticism. The final walking heat
is
open for all families, including walkers with strollers, backpack
carriers, children walkers, etc. Please note: leashed dogs are NOT
allowed in Byrd Park.

This is a new, baby idea hatched at the eleventh hour by busy home
birthing mothers of large families!! Help us actualize its
possibility
as a recurring annual event! We aim to gather together to show one
another and the state how strong we are. Please turn out to
invigorate
the upcoming legislative season, the new midwifery PAC, and develop a
sense of what a strong, healthy, encouraging community we are!

Thanks everyone & I hope to see you there!

Christina
