Snaps --- without a snap press.....how?

What do you recommend to put on snaps if you don't have a snap press or the funds to buy one?? I've bought the little hammer on kits kind at hancocks and I can't get the durn thing to work right. Is there something better? Something close to snap press quality? Oh....this is for clothing....not dipes so it doesn't need to go through a ton of layers.
thanks,

Is this what you bought? Snap Source

Ive heard good things about those. They other thing you might could do is ask around here. Some of the mama's that have snap presses offer Snap service. Meaning you sew it and mark it send it to them they'll add snaps for you for a small fee and send it back.

I've been using the SnapSource stuff for a year now, and I LOVE it. It really works well. I found it frustrating at first because I kept putting the female part in upside down and it wouldn't work right. But then I figured out that part and it works great now! Are you using the correct size of snaps for your snap setter? If you use anything bigger than a 16, you'll need to get a size 20 top to the snap setter.
