Sewing mamas!Calling all AmityMama's who like to sew! Do you make quilts, clothes, diapers, bags? Do you love to run your fingers through fiber? Can't get enough just sewing, but want to talk about it too? Come on in!
I have a 7th grader He loves boxers with matching pillowcases in hockey, skateboarding or seasonal fabric (halloween, christmas ect...). Flannel lounge pants are a good idea too. You can do a cozy minkee blanket for the end of his bed, my ds loves minkee
Maybe a messenger bag? The kids at my Mom's junior high school seem to like them, especially plain black or olive-drab ones that they can then put a billion patches on or paint or what have you. And the more pockets the better.
Or if that's more ambitious than you feel, what about a little set of bags/packs for back to school? A sunglasses case, pencil bag, maybe a couple of other little bags for whatever purpose he can find for them.
The trick, I think, is to keep it kind of plain. No nifty prints, just black, brown, or olive drab fabric. No neat buckles or patches. Basically as boring as possible, if he likes it chances are he'll break out the markers and white-out and decorate it later. (Hee, maybe it'd be fun to include a sharpie and a white-out pen with the package with a note encouraging him to do just that?)
Also, I have to admit that any 12 year old boy that I've ever met would be totally alarmed at the idea of homemade boxer shorts sewn for him by a stranger. But then, maybe it's different for the sons of dedicated sewing mamas!
