Sewing mamas!Calling all AmityMama's who like to sew! Do you make quilts, clothes, diapers, bags? Do you love to run your fingers through fiber? Can't get enough just sewing, but want to talk about it too? Come on in!
I was going to eBay to try to buy a bunch of hemp fabric. I was thrilled to find rolls of yardage for cheap, approx $30 inc. shipping from overseas (which averages to about $2/yrd)...
BUT they mentioned it being illegal to make except specific areas then said w/ customs it may take up to 4wks to receive. Okay, so my questions...
Is it illegal for me to buy it from overseas? What are the risks of it getting held up and possibly kept in customs if it's not illegal, but "iffy".
And last, is this the kind I need? It looks so rough in the pictures that I'm not sure. I basically want it for lining my skirts and maybe for some patchwork. Someone on another loop hinted since it was on the "iffy" legality side, they wouldn't do it just as they wouldn't speed or not pay their taxes.

are you trying for 100% hemp? if i remember correctly, its not illegal to buy textiles of 100% hemp, its just illegal to make them in this country. i could be wrong though.
Guess it doesn't matter. Should have done more research before bidding today. Auction ends in 12hrs or less so can't retract. This is what I got and I am pretty sure it's not what I need now that I've looked around. Ah well! $30 lesson! LOL
egads i am an idiot! this is why i don't bid on ebay any more b/c i speed read! argh! it's also only 14" wide! i just e-mailed the seller to see if they'd cancel my bid, but if not, i'll buy it anyway.

hmmm yeah that stuff isnt what you need for lining, that looks like canvas, linen is usually a closer weave. also hemp muslin is great for lining, takes a couple of washes to soften up though

i found this site, but those shorts dont look like hemp canvas they look like hemp linen to me - you could get this roll and it might be perfect for what you need (the photo could not be true to what it looks like irl). plmk how you like it!

Ooooo I was thinking bags too! You could silk screen the fronts of them
