Sewing room is ready - THREAD STANDS?

Hi there! I must admit I do check in a few times a day and must stop that! A few days I kept the computer off all day and that felt really good! I've been good about fabric buying except for the day trips where I found more baby nay . I've been ebaying it b/c if I sell it here I'll get carried away here again.

My sewing room is done (although DH still needs to get the light fixture and electrical socket covers on). I'm very excited about it. I have 2 large utility shelves housing my fabric, and I now have 2 tables to hold my machines which gives me alot more workspace. It's a very small room, but it works great. I just have to be smart about storage.

I need threadstands! Any suggestions on where to find some good ones? Or does it even matter LOL?

Thanks mamas! I"ll show pics some day when it's really done.

I get the ones at JoAnn's with a coupon & hang them from the wall. (Good to see you!)

I would check ebay or www.marathonusa.com. Both sell them for around $20-$25 depending on how many spools they hold and shipping is around $5-$7. From the looks of them, they are very sturdy and nicer then the ones at Joann's. Looking forward to seeing your sewing room.

My dh made me one that hangs on the wall and has plans for a standing one. He made it from scrap interlocking pine boards(Menards has a scrap section) and dowels. He put the boards together, cut then down, drilled the holes and inserted the cut dowel pieces. Then he ripped evrything apart and put it back together with glue. Clamp and let it sit overnight. Total cost was under 3.00 plus he and dd had a blast building it.

good golly, no way I could do a standing one like you posted erin. My kids would have thread already the stinking place lol

My grandmother had an awesome thread rack when I was growing up. Course everything seemed to be made better back then. Then again, my grandfather probably made it for her. Miss my Pepere...

Hey sweetie! I've been thinking about you all week and meaning to email, but I've been sooo busy with Sophie's ballet recital coming up this weekending...

Anywho, if you want to go WAHM (and we all *want* to, right? ) then check out Brian's Woodshop and they also stock at MiddayFaire but I think thread racks would be custom items... Anyway, I have 2 of their thread racks and they're sooooo much nicer than the one from Joann's. Seriously, NOT EVEN a comparison. And Brian will space the dowels anyway you want now (and I think he even makes it so that you can change them at whim = removable pegs!) so you can customize!!!

I also have a magazie rack from them, and a wooden cutting board, and a child's iron and ironing board, and Sophie's sewing machine, and a clothing stand, and, and, and.

Thanks mamas. Making one would be a good idea but we are soooo not handy and getting the angles right on the drill holes would be too much.

Meagan I had checked out midday faire and didn't see it so thank you for the link! I do think WAHM is the way I want to go unless they are way too pricey.

Oh and today is Ruby's birthday! My sweet baby is 1

Hi Alison. I've been thinking about you too this week. You sound good. Happy birthday to that baby girl. Yikes where did that year go?!!? You must post a picture of her when you get a chance. What did you do for a birthday outfit? I'm glad your room is almost done one less stress for you. Talk to you later. Debbie

I use the thread racks like Erin suggested. I remove the legs from the back and then screw them into the wall. I need to get a couple more. I have a bunch of thread sitting in a box.
