Shirring is so fun SnS *added modeling picture*

Crystal and I were IMing this evening about shirring which got me in the mood to try it. Miss A and I had been to JAs earlier in the day to get some elastic thread.

ETA: Modeling picture. Sorry about my model on the run. I couldn't get a good stand still picture

http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/ekorte...3e.jpg&.src=ph

I cut the fabric 24" long by the width of the fabric. The top is finished with a 1/4" double hem and I stitched 12 rows of shirring using the edge of my pressure foot as a guide. Then I serged up the back and hemmed it using a 1" double hem. The straps are elastisized and just pinned on until Miss A can try it on tomorrow morning. The bow is also just pinned on -- not sure if I like it. I might add a row of the same ribbon around the bottom.

This is the prettiest and easiest sewing project I have ever done -- I am in with shirring! Instant gratification! I am seeing GOBS of these in Abigail's wardrobe for the next few years. I think I will make summer nightgowns for my nieces with the same technique.

Thanks for looking and I am off to bed as a satisfied sewing mama.

Very nice! One of these days I'll brave that technique.

I was scared to try shirring but it was amazingly easy. At first I didn't think it would work, but the more rows you sew, the stretchier it gets. I made this dress from cutting out to hemming in 1 1/2 hours.

So, if I can handle FOE then I can probably handle shirring?

great job Erin!!!!! Did you have to steam yours? I had to steam mine to get it to scrunch all up more. I need to add straps to Hannah's and then it's all done.

It reminds me of a dress I had when I was little.

I'm so used to internet acronyms that when I read GOBS, I first wondered if there was a new acronym that I didn't know! ROFL! I realized that it was actually the word, as in gobs=a lot.

LOL!

Cute dress too!
