Question can someone help me understand the construction of pants? *ADDED sns of wrap pants*

OK, I can follow directions and construct a pair of pants - but I'm wanting to adjust a few things and I do NOT understand what part becomes what part!

i'm going to borrow a pic from the wrap pants b/c that's my current project.

this is after the U shape is sewn together.
now, if the top of the picture is North, where is teh waist on this pair of pants? the legs?

If I wanted to adjust the legs, what part of the piece would that be?
the waist/rise?

tia for any help!

Wrap pants are different than other styles.
On this the front waist is the the top edge to the left of the U- but it will wrap around to the back. The back waist is the top edge to the right of the U- and it wraps around to the front.
The lefs are everything below the U all the way from east to west. Each layer is one leg and wraps all the way around and overlaps.
The rise is how tall (and to some extent how wide) the U is.

The waist is the top. The legs are the bottom. The "U" is the crotch of the pants with the side seams laying open.

ok - so i didnt even notice that these were different than regular pants!!!
*sigh*

ok - on THESE wrap pants, if I need to raise the waist, the U gets bigger?

also, would these work as capris? shorts?

I tried a pair tonight. started with making some for my 5yo b/c she'll use the least fabric anyway - i remembered to add the two inches everywhere BUT the waist - so, guess what???

when they were tied the sides opened easily and all the way up. Oh, SHE thought that was great, btw! she was doing karate kicks and making her legs pop out of the pants and informed me that they were the coolest!

well, I didnt leave them that way, and I dont know anyone skinnier! lol

so I sewed up the sides and made them into just pants. She still loves them. They were a pillowcase to begin with and that's where the scalloped hem came from (I hate hems and will cheat to get one any chance i get! lol)
and I *know* - I need to iron the seams!

ok ok ok, i'll stop gabbing and post the picture already.... lol
