Sewing mamas!Calling all AmityMama's who like to sew! Do you make quilts, clothes, diapers, bags? Do you love to run your fingers through fiber? Can't get enough just sewing, but want to talk about it too? Come on in!
with super simple things! whats up!?!?
ugh
hems & casings hems & casings
folding under, folding under...sewing sewing, & get almost to the starting point & see that I have a weird crinkle, or wrinkle going on...I can't explain it..but it's like the fabric folded over *again*!!
I am pressing it down before I pin...
should I be sewing 1/4 from the end first THEN turn it in again & sew down?
I think I am having a bad sewing day/days lateley
What kind of garment are you working on? On the hem for example, if the bottom is larger in diameter (say on a circle skirt, where the widest part is the very bottom), when you turn it up you can get puckers. If you have a serger, you can serge the bottom edge with the differential feed turned to slightly gather, and make them both the same size eliminating puckers. If you don't have a serger, you can run a basting stitch, then pull it slightly and that should help.

What Jayme said; also, if you are folding under a long length, and you tend to pull the turned part taut to sew it down, you can end up stretching it and stretching it, just a smidge, but after awhile, you will have the grain out of whack, and there is a fold. To fix it, just keep an eye on how you are folding up, and make sure you are folding straight over, grain on grain, and you shouldn't have a problem.
Working w/Woven no serger (yet lol)
I think maybe I *am* pulling it ! Plus the wide bottom I never realized that! *duh*
I am having a problem too on the casing of peasant tops/dresses..maybe because it's curved...I can usually hide it because once the elasic is in its all ruffled/gathered looking anyway..but I know it's there & I want to do it right! LOL & it's a hit or miss..sometimes I get it perfect..sometimes not & I have no clue what I am doing different! LOL
