How do you use a gathering foot?

After Allison's thread on machine feet, I decided to see what I had. well I had one foot that was not listed in the optional accessories list. My manual says nothing about it at all. I think it's an accident I have it really, because all my feet snap on but this one screws on. Anyway how do you use yours? What stitch length/width do you have too set your machine? All this time I was scared of gathering and I had a foot!!!!!!

I just figured out mine as well. Mine is this HUGE scary looking thing called "The Ruffler".
This is what I have I think...

I tried it out the other day and I really like it I used it on my old Necchi Mira though. It is a screw on foot. I think I had a regular stitch length set up, you change everything for the gathers on the ruffler itself.

Great link.

I have that scary contraption and once you use it it is super cool! I feel so successful lol.

I also have a simple ruffling foot for my maching... or is it gathering... gathering that's it gathering foot. But it is nott nearly as WOW as the scary looking one.
