After having a bunch of knits and FOE curing in my stash for the last 2 years because I was afraid of it, I'm finally going to take the plunge. I want to make t-shirt dresses for my dd with FOE at the neck opening. Should I use a regular straight stitch or won't that give it enough stretch to get it over her head without breaking the threads? Maybe I should use a straight stretch stitch. Any other tips or links for this FOE Virgin would be greatly appreciated.

When I first started using it I used a zig zag stitch. As I got better and more comfortable applying it I finally went to using a straight stitch. Just a regular straight stitch. But if I were you I would just got with the zig zag or a triple zig zag until you get real comfortable with it as well. Hth's

My fav, most forgiving when it stretches, is the stretch straight stitch. The tricot zigzag is also in the most forgiving catagorie but I don't like the look for stuff for me. I also like the double needle but it doesn't stretch as much as the first two.

I generally use foe for things like bathingsuits, undies... stuff that needs the stretch and not to pop stitches.

If you are useing it for binding neck and arm lines then a straight stitch will work as long as the head opening is large enough that pressure will not be put on the stitches when the shirt is going on and off. I had a long period of time where Jules head was popping stitches on for when she put her shirts on. I finally got the pattern altered enough that it wasn't an issue.
