Do you have a messy sewing/craft room?

I do horribly and it drives me insane. It has been this way forever!! My DH hates to even walk in it...LOL! Does anyone have any tips to keep it organized? I have bins, drawers, etc...it just doesn't work! Thanks for any help! I am so not as organized as I would like to be

Do you label your bins? I have one of those hanging plastic things with little drawers. I labeled everything. I also have a dresser and a hutch to put fabric and my machines. I have a snap-on metal toolbox with my tools (scissors, snips, etc.) thread, and markers. It locks too so I can keep the kids out of it.

Our freezer is in my "sewing room" and between the freezer and a dresser I keep my ironing board. Between my hutch and the wall I keep my folding pattern board, and cutting mat. My patterns are in a cardboard pattern box and a dresser drawer.

My room is messy at the moment because I have been busy with laundry, decluttering etc. I do have some organization started though.

Umm Yeah!

Mine is on the back porch wich is only 11' X 8' and it is the laundry room too. ther eis only 3 1/2' between my tables and the washer and dryer. It also is out way to the back yd. It gets LOTS of traffic and is always a mess.

I can't sew unless mine is neat because I get frustrated when I can't find stuff. What I do is just clean after every single project. I have a shelf where I put fabric when I'm done with it so it doesn't sit out. It stays there until I re-stack it in my fabric closet. I have bins for everything. I keep a small-drawer organizer on my sewing desk for small notions as well as a tackle box that holds labels, buttons, etc. I heard the tackle box idea here and it's been the best organizing advice I ever received!

This is a funny question to me ~ I just spent way too long yesterday organizing AGAIN my sewing mess. It looks good today, that means by the end of the day it will be a disaster. The cleanliness inspires me to dig in and make another mess.

Honestly though I am very organized and only make a mess during projects which I clean up afterwards. I can't stand to not be able to find what I need. I have lots of bins and totes that are labeled for their specific contents. I have built-in shelves that I keep all my sewing books/manuals and pattern books on, along with a spot for my machines ~ the two shelves are built-in beneath my sewing table, which is extra wide and also my cutting/tracing surface. I do not like to keep my machines out and uncovered, six little hands might try to use them. I have two giant totes that I keep patterns in and my fabric stash has a special room and closet.

There is so much STUFF to get unorganized and out of place, but I do a pretty good job of keeping it under control ~ most days!

But *while* I'm sewing, it's a complete disaster area. Little threads and pieces of fabric and patterns everywhere! LOL

The title to my workroom is: Creative Chaos!!!!

But, I usually know where everything is, so it's not too frustrating.

My sewing area is currently on a patch of the bedroom floor, with nothing for storage, and the machine on the floor...the carpet makes a great pincushion

I usually have a tiny corner of nowhere to sew, and also usually have several projects half completed, so it is always in a constant state of chaos. I try to keep all my main notions in one box that can be transported from room to room, wherever I am working, and the rest I keep put away in a closet or whatever.

I would LOVE to have a dedicated sewing area, so I can do those cool things like build a thread rack, and space to store everything in one place!
