Sewing mamas!Calling all AmityMama's who like to sew! Do you make quilts, clothes, diapers, bags? Do you love to run your fingers through fiber? Can't get enough just sewing, but want to talk about it too? Come on in!
Just wondering. I'm trying to do them on my side snapping aio's and the snaps keep getting in the way and pushing the fabric away from the needles and I'm ending up with serging hanging off the edge. It's rather frustrating.
So, do you do them? Do you think it bothers the kid if they're exposed? How the heck do you do them and still have the serging look nice?
TIA!

I do hidden on all my dipes... but I know what you are talking about and you can do a couple things...
1- you can make the back wings wider so that you have about an inch from the edge for the serging to have room. This though makes them wide therefore less trim.
2- you can do what Shoshoni said, move the snaps closer together (further away from the edge).
I don't do serged dipes for dd since they wick easier.... although I liked your sns since it looked like you had the elastic NOT through the PUL? How did you do yours? Steps I mean.
When I was a wahm I did lots of serged dipes, but now I don't have too lol! I think T&T is easier, that way I don't have to be so freakin mad when stuff like you said happens... no way to "fix" a serged dipe!
Good luck! Hey if you have a diaper cut left of your bright Pink PUL from me lmk! :O) Thanks!

Nope never did hidden snaps. They did sometimes leave a mark, but it wasn't a sore looking mark, it was more the sort of mark like you get when you get creases on your face in the morning from your pillow.
I do mine hidden, and figured it out by measuring the distance between my blade and the outer part of the serger foot, so I'd know how far in I had to go from the edge with the snaps. Then I cut a seam allowance big enough for that. Does that make any sense at all - I'm gesturing with my hands, but I don't suppose you can see me, LOL!

I was just about to post this same question! I read through the replies and I'm wondering if there is another way. I've spent so long perfecting my pattern that I don't want to change the snap placement or the wings. I think it would change the whole look and fit of the diaper. I compared some of my WAHM-made hidden snap diapers to mine and their snaps are about the same distance from the edge of the wings so how are they serging these without problems! I even put one under the presser foot of my serger and the snap was halfway underneath.
I really want to do hidden snaps!

nak but no, i don't do hidden snaps. i've had tons of dipes lose snaps over the years (not just dipes i snapped either) and there's no way to replace one if it's buried inside the diaper unless you want to hack a hole in it. makes me very much mad, lol.
