Sewing bean bag chairs....need ideas for filler

Yep, I finally agreed to do this b/c our couches are falling apart. SO...we've undertaken making a pattern for HUGE chairs and now we need to fill them. The only place I can find the pellets is online with very expensive shipping. That just won't make sence b/c it will cost just as much as going out and buying the chairs.

We have some old couch cushions that dh wants to cut open and use the stuffing inside. But they're very old, and I don't quite trust the foam. I want the chairs to be comfy and to last a long time. I'm considering mixing pellets with foam, but still not sure if I want to use old yellow foam. ick.

Any ideas for me?

My mom made huge ones for the kids for Chrismas one year. She got bean bag pellets at Fred Meyer, a store similiar to ummm, well its a Kroger grocery store and a department store all in one. All of their bean bags come unstuffed....you chose the cover and then buy bags of pellets. She used a combination of the pellets, and some fiberfill to give them more shape. Those things are awesome...they are 5' across, covered in fleece and are so comfy.

Hey Priscilla!! If you're looking for a more natural alternative, buckwheat hulls (available at farm suppliers) are a great filler. They're used in Zafus (you know, those big yoga cushions, like this one ).

Have fun making them!
