Subject: [stacyshempfleececoops] Re: Absorbancy of
hemp fleece
Hi Stacy,
I did an absorbancy test a couple months ago using the
guidelines from this website:
http://www.geocities.com/clothaddict...cytesting.html
I compared three types of prefolds/foldables. They
were all the same size (approx. 12" x 15"), and all
brand new but prewashed 3-4 times in hot and dried on
high.
Here are the results:
1.) handmade foldable - 2 layers 11.5 oz. hemp/cotton
fleece
Dry weight = 4.0 oz (113.4g)
Wet weight = 17.2 oz (487.62g)
Absorbed = 13.2 oz (374.22g)
2.) Hempers small prefold (2 layers hemp/cotton muslin
with center third made of hemp/cotton terry)
Dry weight = 3.2 oz (90.72g)
Wet weight = 10.4 oz (294.84g)
Absorbed = 7.2 oz (204.12g)
3.) Chinese cotton prefold, 4x6x4, small (from Born to
Love)
Dry weight = 2.8 oz (79.38g)
Wet weight = 10.8 oz (306.18g)
Absorbed = 8.0 oz (226.8g)
I was surprised that the Hempers prefold didn't do
better than the Chinese prefold, but maybe that's
because the hemp/cotton muslin isn't very thick. But,
as you can see, the hemp/cotton fleece foldable
*blasted* away the competition!
Hope that helps anyone who's interested!

Subject: RE: [stacyshempfleececoops] Question about
hemp fleece
Dina,
This stuff is incredible!! I am just making diapers
for Isabelle and
she is not a heavy wetter. I used to use 2 layers of
terry towel
inbetween 2 layers of killington fleece. I get the
same coverage,
but using just 2-3 layers of the fleece.
HIGHLIGHTING>>> ****And its no thicker than the
killington fleece,
well maybe a bit, but its amazingly trim. I took a
measuring cup of
water and compared an equal square of french terry,
terry toweling,
killington fleece and the hemp fleece. The hemp
fleece out did them
all in absorbancy. The terry was the closest, but the
fleece still
did 1.5 times the amount of water.*** END
HIGHLIGHTING!<<<
I love it!! Its much trimmer and my serger has no
issues at all.
I hope this helps a bit!

Just thought y'all'd like to read that! Just goes to
show you that HEMP FLEECE is by far THE most absorbant
material we've found so far in the WAHM world! (at least *I* think so!)
