I think most of the diaper pattern discussions got pruned... care to share reviews??

Anyone want to share what diaper making patterns you've tried and what you did or didn't like about them? I'm finding it hard to decide what to do since I didn't diaper a *new* newborn. None of the cloth I had ready for Lydia fit her until she was a month old, and all I used in the beginning was prefolds and side snap covers.

I just made one from the Ottobre pattern last night and it was a flop. It was WAAAAYYYY to big (this thing would fit a 5 year old!) and I didn't even add seam allowances! Also the length they tell you to cut the elastic is way to long for effective gathering. So it was a waste. It was the first dipe I ever made, though, so maybe it's me, but I followed the directions. I even ripped out the elastic, cut it and sewed it back in and it's STILL lax. GRRRR. I guess if you went in knowing to cut smaller than it said and cut the elastic shorter, it might work OK.

I forgot I had made that pattern for Lydia a long time ago. I had the same experience, it was enormous.

Not sure for a new baby as we just used prefolds and covers until dd was 5 or 6 months, but I really like the Goodness Gracious pattern for fitteds.

Here's my experiences:

Honeyboy - too bulky

Very Baby (fitted) - very trim, runs a bit small and is a little too narrow through the crotch for dd, otherwise easy to make

Better Baby - not one size IME, but fit dd probably 3M-12M

Goodness Gracious - good fit, I like the longer wings as it extends the size range, easy to make, pretty trim

Always heard the Ottobre pattern ran huge so I never attempted that one, lol.

Ultimately ended up drawing up my own and making AIOs from prefolds and PUL.

I have only tried Cuddlebuns which I thought were not one-size and Goodness Gracious which I really like a lot. They fit my DD nicely from when she was around 5 months and they still fit well now (18 months) with room to grow. I made some in the newborn size for my brother's baby and they fit her well until about 3 months or so. I really like this pattern a lot.

I've tried quite a few. I'll try to do a run down.

PooPockets - I like these, but I never can seem to get the gussets even and it drives me nuts! The fit is pretty good though.

Goodness Gracious - I really like the pattern, but not on my kids. The front wings always end up sagging out the sides.

Cuddlebuns - It's been a while since I did this one. The pattern was ok, but I didn't like the fit. And I didn't like the Lastin either, but I think that's just a preferance thing on my part.

Better Baby - ok, not one-sized though.

Poochies - This is what I'm using now. I like it a lot. It goes together easily and fits my kids well. I also modify this one and make AIOs too.

HTH! For me, the most important is the fit on my kids. For some reason, not much fits them right. Be sure to show us all the cute little diapers you make.

Thanks Shanna, that's helpful! Front closing dipes never worked well for Lydia. I'm leaning toward ordering the poochies, and making some snappi-able ones out of the tiny poopockets. I think front closing would work fine if I made them snappi-able.

I ordered 4 Kissaluvs today too. Just in case mine are flops. Plus I still have all the CPFs from when Lydia was a baby.

my very favorite is the darling diapers pocket fitted patter you can get here. and you can make them side or front closing (i love side touchtape). this was the only diaper pattern i've been able to make look really nice so far. her directions are a bit easier than the others i've seen. the smallest size fits from 10 pounds up though.

lately i've been making really sweet newborn dipes from the very baby fitted pattern, but i kind of had to make up my own way of putting them together because i just couldn't make them look good using their directions.

Jayne, do you think that the DD pattern could be easily scaled down to fit a NB? I had a Little Lanes swim diaper for Lydia that had side aplix and I loved the fit.

Are you making front or side closing VB?
