Flatlocking instructions

SFAB

I'm just posting these so I can find them next time I want to try flatlocking

2-thread overlock
Start with a balanced tension.
Loosen needle tension considerably so needle thread loops to the underneath side of fabric.
Loosen looper tension slightly, if need be to allow the fabric to be pulled open flat.

3-thread flatlock
Start with a balanced tension.
Loosen needle tension considerably so needle thread loops to the underneath side of fabric.
Tighten lower looper tension until looper thread pulls into a straight line at edge of fabric.
Loosen upper looper thread enough to allow fabric to pull open flat.

It was also advised that you let the loops hang off the edge to make the flatlocking flatter once you pull it apart.

Someone else said ..you have to set the tension in the needle at like 0 on my machine and the lower looper at like 7 and the upper at like 3 or 4. But mainly it is the needle tension should be loose so you can pull the seam open. Every machine is probably different.

Someone else asked about decorative threads and the reply was... You put a decorative in the needle with a zero tension (this is the color that shows on the back), upper looper decorative (shows on front) zero tension, lower looper wooly nylon with a 9 tension.

HTH someone else too.
