Basically add 3-4 inches to the hemline for this shirt. Fold and press the hem up right sides together. Trace the scallop design along the hemline with the bottom of the roundpart touching the foldline. Stitch along the lines and then trim close to stitching. Fold hem down and turn to back as you would hem it. Clear as mud? That's how I did the hemline for that bee dress (except I reversed the scallop and made points) and it worked out very well. This cutting facings with scallops and then trying to line it all up....BLAH!
Would anybody be willing to walk me through that again? I don't get it at all
Aw, that shirt is GREAT! I LOVE IT! Keep showing me stuff like that and I will have to get a sub to Ottobre.

Basically imagine you have cut out the shirt and the facings with the scallops. Imagine how you would sew them together right sides together, clip and turn. Now instead, you are going to add a hem allowance to the shirt and skip the facings. When you turn the hem up, right sides together, you will trace the facing piece onto the turned up hem. The basic idea is that instead of trying to line up cut scallops, you are just going to draw them on and then sew through both layers. Then cut the scallops. I know I'm probably very confusing. If I get a chance, I'll do a sew-a-long.

I get it! That sounds so much better than trying to line up facings

Melissa--that is just beautiful. I love those soft colors together!! I'll have to try that!
I do scallops the way you say to do them.
BTW, have you tried your hand at Madeira applique? I'm going to try it for Madelyn's Easter dress, if I get to it. I am using Martha's Magic method with the wash-away thread. I just wondered if you've done this before and if you had good results?
