zipper sew-along as requested

this is the method my mom showed me when i was little. it's easy and it works! this is for non separating zippers.

first sew the back seam of the dress/garment as if there was no zipper. then zig-zag the edges.

then pin your zipper into place

sew the zipper with the zipper foot, and go back and forth at the bottom of the zipper to re-inforce that area.

and view from the right side

use your seam ripper to open the seam, starting at the bottom

the opened zipper

the closed zipper

i hope this helps! let me know if my instruction are unclear.

That's actually how the instructions had me do it in the pattern...how interesting! I think I'll try Heather's suggestion with the wonder tape too

Thanks Erin!

I've tried this way (sewing together first) and it didn't work. I had to do it the KS way. But seeing your pictures, I must have done something wrong. You did a great job explaining and showing it! Thanks!

Thank you for posting pics...I'm a visual learner, and zippers are still scaring me. This helps!

I like doing zippers this way, too, though I still find it tricky when doing it on stretchy fabric. ARGHH! Great sew-along!

Thanks Erin!

What is Heather's suggestion with the wonder tape? I'd love to hear it!
