If you need pattern weights... (thrifty idea)

I don't use them, but I hear that if you use/want weights, the really big washers at Homey Depot are CHEAP and effective.

Yes, I've heard that -- pretty good idea!

I've also been collecting Altoids and similar tins to fill with plaster or concrete or something.

And to make them pretty (two glued together, wrapped in cotton yarn and back with non-slip rug stuff):

Thanks for sharing this, especially how you wrapped them (love the non-stick stuff). I've been using small bean bags but they're just not heavy enough. JS wanted $10 for a set and all they are is washers covered with plastic I'm going to make my own

Becky made me some of her pattern weights and I just have to say they are indeed wonderful! I haven't pinned patterns in MONTHS because of them!! I don't know how I ever got by without pattern weights!!!

Thank you again Becky!

Those are really neat Becky. I had asked DH for some for Christmas, but I think I'll use your idea and save us some money

What a great idea!! Being a newbie, I didn't even realize you should pin the pattern or that pattern weights existed, and I was having the darnedest time with this the other night...

I really need to make some of these and I love the yarn wrapped ones! I remember the last time we talked about this and someone mentioned the Altoids tins. I have the yellow ones from Joann's and I really like them (they have little spikes in the bottom so they "grip" the pattern and fabric. But I've dropped 2 on the floor and they've broken open so I had to throw them away (they have little metal beads inside).

'Nother thought... these would be great for the swap! Anyone who goes and buys the washers care to post how much they cost each and maybe possibly weigh them? LOL It might be too heavy to do them for all 15, but one could easily do 5 or so? I might do this as I'm struggling with my mama swap portion...

I LOVE this idea! I've had my washers since 1999 but that are U-G-L-Y *and* I was just thinking that I need to glue 2-3 together because they really aren't heavy enough! I was just at Lowe's Saturday--wish I'd bought more. I have 12 and they weren't cheap since I bought them at a small-town hardware store (I pad close to a dollar each!). This would be a fun project for 9yo dd.....

That's what I use! DH works for a hardware distributor and he brought some home for me...I think they were like .30 each! I haven't spruced mine up yet.
