Waldorf Doll Sew Along INFO!!

Okeydokey, when do you want me to start it?? Like Monday or later when everyone gets stockinette?

**Do everyone have a pattern? Or should I try to draw something and put it online??

#1 You don't have to use stockinette - it's easier to sculpt, but you don't "need" it. You can just use a piece of white cotton interlock sewn into a tube.

If anyone wants some, I have unbleached 2 inch - nice, thick stuff. It's $1.50/yd - enough to make 3-4 doll heads. PM me or email me if you're interested - stephanie@snugglebees.com

#2 Skin tone knit: I prefer to buy the white interlock at JoAnns and dye it with rit dye. Make sure you prewash the fabric on HOT HOT HOT!! You need to test the fabric in the dye first.
blush - mauve/peach
peach - peach or tangerine
mocha (like dark chocolate milk) - dark brown/tan/mauve
tan - tan
dark brown - dark brown

#3 Hair - I will be doing the sew-a-long with crocheted hair for a ponytail or pigtails for girl dolls and just a cap style for boys. It's the only way I can do the hair - that sewing the hair through the head thing drives me nuts.

#4 Supplies:
DOLL:
pattern
cotton string
stuffing - wool, poly, cotton
skin tone interlock knit - 1/2 yd
thread to match skin tone knit
straight pins
embroidery floss for eyes and mouth
mohair/wool yarn for hair
crochet hook - I prefer size C or D
dollmaking needle (can get this at JoAnns/Hobby Lobby) - 3 and 5 inch sizes (5 inch is easier, but 3 in works too).
sharp needles - smaller ones for sewing body
Optional: blusher for the cheeks

CLOTHES:
1/2 yd of fabric - makes jumper or dress and matching pantaloons
Lg scrap (fq size) - for shirt

I think I've covered everything, if not, let me know. Feel free to PM me or email me, I'll be in and out for the next few days, but I'll answer asap.

Well that's not really how I make my dolls - I have a body and separate arms and the the way she leaves the skin tone on the head seems a bit "messy" to me.

But that did give me a great idea. I have the doll skin already cut out and I can lay it on a dark background and take a picture so you could print it out and make yourself a pattern.

How about we start on Nov 4th. Would that be enough time?

Doll needles are very long and sharp - 3 inches is okay - 5 inches is better because it's easier to make the eyes and mouth with.

This is the only picture I could find of what some would look like:

Yep, starting Nov 4th.

If anyone has questions, I'll be out of town at my MIL's through Sunday. But I'll try to check the web every once in awhile from there.
