What's on your crafty to-do list for the holidays?
The end of Halloween costumes may be in sight and I'm really far behind from my normal August start date for Christmas. I'm putting together the revised list over this weekend. What's on your list? I need ideas and to commiserate about my lack of time
ummm.. I need to try to learn to use my sewing machine, and I'd like to figure out how to knit better and how to crochet. Recently it's all been about canning, painting and organizing the house and trying to survive sick children.
We are doing a package for each family on our list for Yule. Each family gets: a cookbook of our favorite recipes w/ fun comments and stuff put together by the whole household, a crocheted dishcloth and the kids are making applesauce cinn ornaments. My housemate and I have been crocheting like mad and have about 14 dishcloths done, but I think we still need around 20 more, whoosh! I feel pretty good about it though, we have a couple months still, so that's good and we got all our Samhain costumes done weeks ago. I actually feel on top of it this year for once, weird!!

I have to finish a quilt I am making for my neice. I started the new year off with a bang and made one for my nephew but I am dragging on my neice's. I need to make a stocking for my daughter since she's the only one here without a homemade mommy stocking!
I need to make a new tree skirt--I made a beeeeeautiful hand sewn, wool felt appliqued tree skirt a few years ago and last year (one week post-partum) my cat threw up all over the tree skirt. I tried to wash it but the red ran all over the white and it looked horrible. I need to make a new one.
I'd also like to make a set of Jesse tree ornaments--gosh this list is making me laugh with hysterics that I can accomplish all this--it's November right??

I was just considering whether I would be sewing our Christmas jammies or buying them. To buy them would cost just under $200. I fear it would actually cost about the same to make them.

"Master, which is the greatest commandment in the law?
Jesus said until him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
This is the first and great commandment.
And, the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
On these two commandments have all the law and the prophets."
well, my sister wants a new apron and the little girl she adoped this summer has never had a homemade christmas, so I will probably make a few outfits and some clothes for her dolly. my girls are getting the usual jammies but not sure what else. I am making my mom a robe from terry velour. that is just the start of it, I have to think on the rest.

I am not stressing about this kind of thing this year. I am going to take things as they come and enjoy making them but not feel bad if I don't get to it. It's the new me!
First on my list is our 'gratitude tree' that I put up near our dining table every year. We have an actual dining room this year so it's exciting! I use butcher paper or paper grocery bags for the tree part, and then cut out leaves in autumn colors from construction paper. People can take a leaf, write something they are thankful for, and tape it on the tree. I usually leave it up all winter. Here is a pic from many years ago:
Then I'll focus on winter PJs for Sam. After that, anything else I truly WANT to make. No more making the huge list and then feeling bad when I don't finish a fraction of it. No mas!
Similar to Tara's gratitude tree, I am making a gratitude scrapbook/journal that I've titled blessings. I am going to make the page bases and each day I am going to, or have one of the kids take a picture, print it and journal about the day and what they are thankful for. That will make all five of us stop and count our blessings.
And in December, we will do something similar with a December Daily album and take pictures of the outside, our tree, the treats we make, each other and write about it.

and some nice corduroy
I can't knit, but I can hand-sew left-handed but dh will have to cut because my only pair of lefty-scissors are diso a sharpening I have a sewing machine and might have room to use it.
