Neck holes, arm holes and sleeves, OH MY!....

Okay guys, I have just made 3 pairs of reversable pants (I'll post a pic tomarrow) but now I want to make some shirts for my DS and I have never made one before. The directions look so darn intimidating! Is it very hard to make neck and arm holes? Any tips? I think I can do the sleeves cause it looks like you start from the bottom of the shirt side and work right up and around, kind of like a big C. I am going top cut out the fabric tomarrow and I want to attempt to make it in the evening. Wish me luck cause I'm gonna need it LOL!~ OOH, wait till you guys see my reversible pant's, I used some KP kids fabric, they look wayyyy coollll!!

Gina, how about making a raglan sleeve tshirt out of a coordinating knit?

How would you like to do a pants sew-a-long? I have some photos because I'm also doing reversible pants.

Did you sew them together at the ankles first or the waist first?

Re: Neck holes, arm holes and sleeves, OH MY!....

Gina,
Don't be intimidated!! LOL T-shirts are easy...seriously, like cake! I can usually finish one within an hour. Cuffs/collars are no sweat! If the instructions sound tough, try these:

1. Sew back and front together at shoulders.

2. Sew collar together. Divide collar into fourths...pin to neckline. Sew, stretching collar to fit. (tiny bit of stretch in back, bigger stretch in front)

3. Lay sleeve flat and sew to shirt (front and back).

4. Put sleeves with right sides together. Sew up the sleeve and down the side of the shirt...one seam! Reinforce armpit area.

5. Sew cuffs together. Sew onto end of sleeves...make sure to s-t-r-e-t-c-h!

6. Hem the bottom!

Ta-Da!! Didn't get too detailed because of space....an am assuming you know right sides together, etc! LOL

Good luck! Shirts are my fav. quick and easy project!

Rosa gave great instructions!
One thing to add.... if you have a double needle for your sewing machine you can topstitch near the neck ribbing, cuffs, hem. It adds a very professional finish!

I would *love* to do a reversable pants sew-a-long!! I am just starting to sew for Oliver, although I have been sewing since I was 8, I'm a little out of practice : (
Anyone else?

Re: Neck holes, arm holes and sleeves, OH MY!....

I'm thinking that I'm going to need to learn how to do this also.

The big question is ..... do I need a pattern to make a shirt?

Thanks to Scarlet I had a pattern to make the pants with but is there some way to manage without for the shirt?

I'm feeling brave...... ok so a glass of champange and the 4 parts to the reversable pants are still sitting next to me but stilll....... I can make a shirt..... I can do it!

Bethan,
I just cruised by this post and J goes :O) Bethan and Jon. He never remembers the rest but Jon has some sort of hold over my kid.
