I skip a few steps on your method. I print out (it needs to be reversed BTW) what I'm copying (the cheaper and thinner the paper, the better. Don't use your resume writing paper to do this!). Then I hack around the design any old how and use a glue stick to stick it to the fusible web backing. Then I iron the fusible web onto my applique fabric. Finally I cut round the whole lot -- saves a bunch of cutting and tracing time.

Cool directions Meg I do just about the same thing as Meg, although I skip the spray and just pin the stabalizer on, cause I'm lazy. Also, after the applique is set and ready to stitch, I like to straight stitch very close to the edges, before I do my applique stitching, but that's just me.

Here is a pair of overalls that have been sitting in my UFO pile for months now. The first is the picture of the dragon, this is appliqued on the back:

Here is a close up of part. I just wanted to point out, if you have several pieces, you should think out, how you want the stitching to look, and in what order you should stitch. You can see in this picure, how I wanted the arm on top, but the sword under, so I had to kind of make a list in my brain, what needed to be stitched first, to achieve the look that I was after. Oh, and he doesn't have eyes yet

Also, here is a picture of the castle in the front. I have stitched the hill, and part of the castle, in the middle, cause I have more layers, and those need to go on before I stitch around the whole thing.

Oh, and I usually use the clear thread on the underneath, and I use an applique foot, that has kind of a space under it, so when you are sewing over the satin stitches, the foot doesn't get caught up on the stitching, but you don't have to have this at all to applique

wow dina that's amazing? Question for the savvy - is it just practice for those curved applique pieces?

For the appliques what I do is iron on fusible webbing to the fabric, glue it on the garment with a washable glue stick and then iron on a piece of freezer paper on the back. It tears away easily after finishing and the waxy/shiny side irons on firmly with a warm iron.
