Copied a rtw skirt ~sns~ w/ a side of spam

Tierran was given a cute little tierred skirt w/ built in shorts. She loves it so I decided to copy it. I love how it came out except it is a too big on her I seem to be doing that a lot lately. ugh!

Fabric was marked 100% cotton but it definitely isn't. My best guess is cotton/rayon/lycra knit.

The shorts aren't hemmed yet. It was sewn on my sewing machine w/ an overcast stitch because I didn't want to switch the serger back and forth from the rolled hem setting. Lazy.

So it is fs $6 + ship. It would fit a 22-26" waist line. Tierran is more like a 20" and it falls off of her. It is 10.5" from waist to hem.

Happy to hold it for Ara.
Jenn, it was very simple but somehow I think my explanation will get complicated. LOL
I used a one piece shorts pattern and cut the inseam down and the rise way down- sew them up leaving waist unfinished
I cut out the waist band ~6.75xwaist measurent (I would cut it less than waist next time) seam the short ends and fold over (like ribbing at a t-shirt neck)
The tierrs (am I spelling that right ) are like big letter "C" the long one is 7" wide and the short/top one is 5.5" You need 2 of each- seam them at the sides so you have 2 donunts with different widths. Roll hem or finish the bottom edges.
Now you put the 2 tiers around the shorts as it looks finished. Put the waist band on (turned down) matching edges and sew all layers. Flip waist band up and you are done.
You will need a lycra print or will have to alter the waist band to have elastic I think.
Clear as mud?

Joanita- my explanation is a bit confusing. I do need to make Tierran one that fits. I'll take pictures as I go. Give me a few days and I'll have a sew-along for you.

Oh it's cute! Was she wearing the shorts yesterday? They look like the pink ones she had on.

Now stop telling me I never post!

Hadyn has recently discovered skorts and is all about them. I love the layers to the one you made. I suspect, we'll all be seeing a lot of skirt S&Ss this summer. They're pretty cute. I really like the fabric you used.
