Materials:
9.5" half inch elastic
1/2yrd fabric (you can get two pair from the width of the fabric)
matching thread
something to trace your pattern onto
Pattern~
Following a 1"grid trace your pattern from this picture onto your tracing material. Make sure to transfer tail opening marks so you know where to start and stop your back seam.
Cutting~
With fabric folded right sides together lay pattern on top and cut. You will now have two mirror image indentical pieces, one for the left leg and one for the right.
Sewing~
- sew using a 3/8" seam allowance, back stitching at start and stop of all seams
Start with your back seam. Sew your back seam from the top (waist) to the first tail opening mark. Now sew from the bottom tail opening mark and finish back seam to the bottom (crotch). Open seam allowance and straight stitch seam allowance open. You should now have both pant legs attatched together at the back seam with a tail opening.
Sew your front seam now, finishing seam allowances as desired (I chose to do a triple zigzag in the seam allowance to finish edge).
Press your hems up 1/2" twice. Straight stitch hem in place.
Sew inside leg seam, again back stitching at the beginning and end- also finishing raw edges as desired.
Mark center of elastic and pin to front seam at waist. Starting at back seam, stretch elastic to fit as you zigzag your elastic on. Turn elastic to inside and topstitch down. I chose to attatch elastic with a triple zigzag and to topstitch with my blind hem stitch.
Finished!
Thanks for sewing along!
