Talking Wah! I need zipper help! --- Figured it out! Pics in response :)

I tried to make a really simple pencil case kinda bag w/ a zipper top. What a disaster.

Is there somewhere online that describes how to insert zippers property w/ pictures? Or does anyone feel ambitious enough to do w sew-along? I feel like a dunce

I almost posted this previously! the first zipper I ever did was great but ever since...hmmm not so great so now I am skipping them temporarily until my sewing lesson on wednesday..I am going to ask her to show me the RIGHT way...she already suggested a Vogue sewing book for beginners to learn zippers and stuff.

Color me impressed! I found my zipper, but I've been googling trying to find a good site with diagrams or pictures of a zippered, lined bag before I jump in and sew.

doh, I knew you were going to see this -- I'm busted ... and no, I'm not going to post pictures ... it's embarrasing *lol*

Have you found any good sites online? I've had no luck!

Well I'm actually slightly struggling with this as we speak as well. But I want to make some of these for the christmas swap as well as something else I'm working on. As soon as I find the best technique (something that actually yields a nice looking end-result) I'll post a sew along. But if you find something in the meantime, do share!

This is the best I can find now: http://www.sewyoungsewfun.com/freepr...rnightbag.html

http://www.soapboxgirls.com/random/weebagpattern.pdf

oooh, pictures: http://sewing.about.com/library/weekly/aa062300a.htm

There was another one I saw several months ago, but it's eluding me now. I'm not great at figuring out spatial relations type stuff in my head, my mind is spinning.

Yes, I'm up at 1:35 a.m. obsessing about how to make a lined, zipper-top bag...

thanks Jayme!! I'm off to ponder these sites and if we're lucky, by the end of the day I'll have a decent zipper S&S. *crossing fingers*

So, this time I started w/ the zipper longer than the top of the bag ... I think that made all the difference.

This is a lame S&S, but I promised I'd post pics, so here they are *lol*

So, I still don't understand how to insert a zipper that doesn't go the entire length of the opening, like in clothes or if I wanted to make a bag that was wider than the zipper opening, kwim?

beautiful! lol I know what you mean! I can do them ok if they go the whole way.... I've started doing ti with noelles dresses...making the zipper go to the end of the dress...I use a separating zipper though... dont know hoe to do a half one and not have the end look wonky.

Oooh, I love it! I've done a couple of zippers and have had headaches with fabric creeping and things ending up wonky... LOVE the idea of basting everything together to prevent that from happening. Woo HOOO! I want to try this...
