Undies ~ show while you sew along ~

a few asked to see how I put together the undies I made Tierran. So I took a few pics as a made a pair tonight.
Please note: this is the lazy mama way to do undies for a little girl. If you are interested in doing undies for yourself and want the crotch lined then search the faq forum. Shecki did a great sew along awhile back.

Step one:

Cut out the one and only pattern piece. See, lazy mama way. Don't say I didn't warn you

sew the side seam.
I do this on the sewing machine with a small zigzag or stretch stitch. I think it makes a more comfortable seam than a serged one. no, it couldn't possibly have anything to do with being too lazy to change the thread color on the serger... seesh... some people

mark midpoints on leg openings and 12" pieces foe. attach.

if you forgot to add a "tag" when doing the waist then quickly sneak one on now. tags are critical to young ones that are so skinny that they can't tell the leg hole from the waist hole, not to mention front from back!

Thanks for the undies sewing lesson. It was very helpful to me, especially being new to sewing.

So are you going to tell us where/how you made the pattern too? Is it just a pair of undies cut up?

She has some rtw undies that just don't fit right. They are such high rises that they go up to her arm pits so all her undies stick out the waist band of what she is wearing. So I marked the waist w/ a sharpie while on her to where I thought they should go and redrew the leg opening a bit to be more comfortable. Took them off her and started cutting them apart when it dawned on me, "Why cut that last seam just to have to sew it up again!" And the lazy mama's undie pattern was born.

Mine is almost a one piece but it has a crotch piece added... I count it as a one piece because I don't cut out the crotch, I just sew a rectangle on and trim it later. Mine joins at the two sides rather than at the bottom and side.

I love the shortcuts you made on those, whatever makes things easier right?
