breaking internet addiction?
how do you do it?
i have tried limiting myself - doesn't work, i can always find a reason, like "oh i am in a swap, i have to check and make sure they havent changed the rules" or "i need to check and make sure that the package i sent is on the USPS tracker".
the only thing i have found is for me to pack up the kids and get out of the house all day.
i am spending way too much time online, it's even bothering me but i can't seem to stop. plus i spend so much money on here!
Location: and it's one time keep it slow wind them up & here we go

ditto to all you said... ~ and here i sit
i did tons today around this place, so i popped on a for a few before dinner.
the only way i can NOT get on, is if the puter doesn't even get turned on in the a.m.. i use it like a reward, IF i get a-b-c done then i can turn it on.
my mom arrives weds. so i think i am on more than usual b/c i don't want to be while she's here ~ and i have even more to do around the house, etc...
I just leave this thing online all day anymore, then go do stuff, and come right back. It is bad. Of course, I am usually only on for a few minutes at a time. This afternoon, I am also washing linens, cleaning house and getting snacks ready for tonight (the boys are being sat on).
I think I like the friendship, I am to cranky to have friends who can actually see me I guess.

My tried and true method... Make yourself "earn" opening posts by doing 5 of something (like crunches, dips, push ups) for every new page you open. So, even on those days when you sit and read, say, 20 or 30 posts, you have at least done some physical exercise, yk?
Or, you could just be like me and infect your computer with pesky pop ups and spyware so that it crashes just about every time you try to log on.
I've stuck with the 5 reps oer posts thing since Jan of 2004 and not only did it really help me realize how much I was online and cut it down, I have also had very noticable results in toning my abs and arms.
One Mama I had read (was it Bethanydear?) had something installed on her computer that would only let her be online X amount per day. I believe she said she had her DH have a password for it.

Well I think that Nic, Bran and I need to break our internet addiciton with a group stalking of JW.
Seriously though - I am having that very same problem these days. For me, actually turning OFF the computer, as opposed to letting it run connected 24/7 like we normally do since we have a cable modem, has been helpful.
I downloaded a free timer, you set it and it rings when the time is up. I find just that sort of a reminder seems to work (most days!!). Lmk if you want the link.
One is more detailed, you enter accounts for every member of your family and it times how much time each of you spend, you can set limits, etc, its great for showing your kids they all have equal online time...no more fights.
The other is simple, it features 9 different timers, you can set it to count down to the alarm or count up (time you) and the alarm goes off. It almost seems overly simple, but I find its just what I need as far as a physical reminder, I set it for 20 minutes at a time, because I figure after 20 minutes, I should at least get off my ass and walk around the room..lol.
This one is totally free http://www.download.com/MB-Timer/300...l?tag=lst-3-20
Anyhow I hope this helps someone else Its helping me

usually, if i'm on line it's when i'm at my out of home job. i spend a lot of my time working on line, so it's easy to pop in and out while i'm waiting on other tasks to complete.
for on line bus stuff, i use a laptop at home, and just take it wherever the kids are, so we can color or whatever.
but having said that, i sort of went through a thing about a year ago where i thought i was on way too much and have cut back tons. i try to do more and talk about doing it less, lol. i think i have an internet addictive personality type, whatever that means, so it was something i had to really confront and decide not to do. a couple times i found myself on the ocmputer after midnight just surfing around, and decided that wasn't very good when i could have been snuggling my dh instead
I've been having the same trouble. DH is gone so much. I get bored after the kids go to bed, but I waste so much time online I've been turning off the computer also, which seems to help. I should try the timer.....
