I bought 6 hanks (50g each) of kid mohair yarn to use on dolls, etc. It's really fine and I'd need to use at least 2 strands at a time. So I'd need each hank made into 2 balls.

Because it's so fine it's a real pitb to ball by hand. I got a ball about the size of a marble before I gave up lol.

I'd need to trade (generously) for this service...so if you can do it please lmk what you're iso. I'd, of course, pay shipping both ways.

I have a winder and we could probably work something out but a local yarn store would probably do it for a small fee. If you watch sales, you can get a ball winder for under $20. I couldn't live without mine.

ah, thank you! I don't know why I was thinking it was a $100 purchase. I guess I was thinking a swift was necessary to use a ball winder. I take it it's not? I guess one person can just hold the yarn while another person winds it, huh?

I just found one on sale at joann.com and I have a free ship coupon so I'll go that route. Thank you for the suggestion!

you might find it a bit difficult w/o a swift...still doable, but a bit frustrating.

Now see, I have never seen the need for a swift. I just love center-pull balls and do all my yarn that way. Wouldn't you have to wind it on a swift first or am I missing something?

Is the yarn in hanks or in skeins? If they are in hanks, then you just place the hank right on the swift. It then spins round as you wind your ball.
