Talking My Intro

Some of you know we from the sewing forum as well as the weight loss forum, but I have never posted or even lurked here before until today.

I have a good friend that has been knitting for a year+ now and she had made so many cool projects and she inspires me. I have wanted to learn how to knit for a long, long time now, but have really lacked the time to teach myself.

My MIL tried to teach me to crochet and I make one line of stitches, but she never taught me how to add to it. Yesterday, I bought a little kit and between it and a Debbie Bliss, Learn to Knit book my grandmother gave me, I taught myself to at least cast on, and knit rows. Don't know how to finish it off yet, but I guess I will cross that bridge when I get there.

My first project is a scarf that will have 3 different types of stitches, I guess that it is supposed to help you practice. I don't like the yarn that came with the kit, because it is acrylic and personal natural preference aside, it is itchy to knit with. I bought some Debbie Bliss cashmerino off eBay, as well as I plan to go back to Hancock's (really the only game in town), and see if they have any 100% cotton yarn. I would *really* like to learn to knit socks. The thought of warm wooly socks really excites me, LOL!

Anyway, that is my story, and I appreciate you letting me share it.

Stacey,

Hi there mama! Welcome to a new addiction. I am sure your scarf will be lovely when it is done for the fact that you made it.

Do you have a Joanns in your area? They have Wool Ease on sale for $1.77 a skein and I think this is a great starter yarn. It is 80% acrylic/20% wool and is a bit higher quality then say Red Heart. I think it is pretty soft. If you want to learn how to knit socks there is a special sock yarn that is made from superwash wool and nylon. THis makes a washable wool sock that is extra durable.

We all love this online store: www.knitpicks.com. The prices are great for high quality yarn and you get free shipping with a $30 order.

Welcome, Stacey! Glad to have you here. I have been coming to this forum more and more lately. Probably b/c I am knitting more again lately. I have had a life-long love of knitting.

Anyway, great job on your first bit of knitting!

Hi Stacey.

I'm new to this forum as well. I've known how to knit for years, just never have had the passion. I got bit by the bug and I'm loving it. Made my first scarf a few weeks ago. My friend and I are taking a sock class in a week and a half. Then I want to rolled-brim hat class as well.
