another www.knitpicks.com recommendation! I love love love their yarn. Free shipping over $30 too! But, really it depends on what type of yarn you like. I like my yarn processed & soft & merino. But, lots of people like farm yarns that are less processed. For farm yarn, Theresa at www.littleturtleknits.com has a great selection.

I bought a bunch of merino and wool of the andes from knitpicks and it's been great. They also have a good selection of books with good prices on those too, and free shipping over $30.
I am just starting to knit, and I need the supersoft, processed merino yarns for my dd, who's ultrasensitive to scratchiness, but depending on the project I can definitely see making things out of some nice farm yarns like Theresa has. (I live in sheep country so I have access to a ridiculous variety of local yarns too.)
I haven't ordered from them but hear good things about elann.com.
Oh! And don't forget to check ebay! Some sellers have brand name yarns like Rowan for a fraction of the retail price, regularly available, and then some people just sell of bunches of yarn from their stashes there for even cheaper.

I'm Hayes. No worries Amey! It's hard to remember EVERYONE online. And I agree with Amey. Knitpicks is a company. It is run by people, but it certainly isn't a WAHm operation or even a small family farm operation like Marr Haven.
