Need help finishing a ribby wrap

Ok, this project has been sitting on my needles entirely too long (months). I can't get into Theresa's forums to ask this so I'm hoping someone here can help me.

I cannot wrap my head around the gussets. I've put them in & torn them out too many times to count. A crochet hook & me do not mix...unless I'm making fun flip flops.

How do I start the gussets? With a slip knot like usual?

Geez, I am so embarassed to be so lost!

TIA!!!

I've made 2 Ribby Wraps so far. The first I completely unraveled and knit into a WHW soaker. The 2nd still needs buttons. I love all of the other patterns I've bought from Theresa but this one really hasn't "grown on me" yet. It's such a cute pattern though, I'm not giving up on it. I think I'm going to make a larger size the next time.

Yes, start the crochet with a slip knot. I think the best part of the gussets being crochet is that you CAN rip it out over and over w/o the headache of picking up stitches in knitting!
