Loosing a stitch every row I crochet? What am I doing wrong?

So I ch 31 stitches...then ch one more for row 2...at the end of row 2, I have 30, I ch one for row 3 start sc in second loop from hook. I just dont' get it? Do you count the stitch on the hook? Help please if Imake any sense?

I think it's cuz you're starting in from the 2nd stitch from the hook, maybe try doing the first? Are you doing single or double crochet? If you're doing double, then you need to do 2 stitches at the end of the row. HTH

i always had the same problem of losing stitches. That's why i dont crochet

I am doing single crochet...I am attmepting to make the side of a future box, I will post a pic of my wonky side. I will try not skipping the stitch. That totally makes sense, and I am glad to know I am not alone in this loosing stitches business!
