Well it's really for my 5yo but it is SUCH an accomplishment for me! I have this HUGE fear of knitting sweaters and have actually knitted a few that never got finished.
Zoe chose the yarn color and has been wearing it two days in a row to go to school. I am SO proud I could burst with happiness. LOL! Starting one for ds already and I think it will be done by the weekend. Woohoo!!! Then I'm definitely knitting myself one.
I used Theresa 's raglan pattern, it's perfect for a new knitter or one that lacks confidence... wonder who that might be...
Wow! That's awsome mama! I have knit quite a lot of items now, most probably on par with a sweater, but I totally know the sweater fear! lol I don't know what it is, but they are intimidating. I started one and pulled it out b/f I finished the back and then started another that I really should finish, but it's been ages since I worked on it. You've inspired me, though. If it looks half as good, I'd be thrilled. -- oh, and I have to do it before my ds gets anywhere near that big, lol, it will only get harder...
Jayne, with the gorgeous soakers I saw you knit, I'd say someone is ready to knit a sweater! I have knitted at least 3 sweaters that were never completed before finishing this one. Try a raglan sweater in the smallest size you can, I think that's the trick. Also a raglan is fun as you don't have seams to deal with, no blocking pieces before sewing them up and all. The only sewing you have to do is the kitchener/grafting under the arms at the very end of knitting the sweater. So once you are done knitting the sweater is just about ready to be tried on.
I finished my 2nd sweater in a week, next up is a sweater for my very own self!!! I couldn't be more excited!!!
Thanks Jo! Someone just posted on mothering that they learned how to knit like two weeks ago and have already made two pairs of longies with matching sweaters and hats! Can you imagine!? I'm gonna pull that sweater out tomorrow for sure.
